Epic Nature by Rachel Israel

Epic Nature - Spring
A Poem by Rachel Israel

In Spring I hear water trickle down the stream sparkling like a crystal sea
In Spring I see the fruitful trees, healthy trees, so many bees
In Spring I sit on dew covered grass, short and long grass
In Spring I see beautiful flowers, roses like rubies and lilacs like diamonds

In Spring I look at tall snow capped mountains from a distance
In Spring I see the hills genuinely and beautifully touched with sunshine
In Spring the sky looks baby blue meeting with the bright yellow sun
In Spring the clouds look like giant, white, fluffy cotton balls

In Spring I watch glistening fish jumping up the stream
In Spring I spot a bear wearing brown coat and spying on a fish
In Spring I walked around and saw a crocodile lurking for prey
In Spring I see an eagle with piercing eyes elegantly and gracefully flying

In Spring I plant some vegetation in rich soil
In Spring beautiful crops spring up from the seeds
In Spring I see butterflies with wings glistening under the sun
In Spring I see small green insects hanging by a silk thread

I know I am ready for the Spring! Are you?

History of Peaks

Written By NRIGirl on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 | Wednesday, March 30, 2011

It would be great to know some history of Peaks at Jefferson. Let me post the questions that comes to my mind and whoever wishes to add to it or answer these, please feel free to share in the comments section below:

1. How did the Peaks project come about; which year the construction actually started?

2. What was in this area - the mountains - before Peaks came into picture?

3. Who designed the Peaks?

4. How many homes are in the Peaks community?

5. Which was the first house built?

6. Which was the last house built?

Book Recommendation by Salvatore Zurzolo

Peaks resident Salvatore Zurzolo recommends a book by his colleague Elijah Muhammad. The rest is in Salvatore's words:

A colleague of mine has self-published a book, I thought some of you might be interested or know someone who might be interested. Here is the press release: The book can be purchased exclusively at http://www.blurb.com/

Entertainment Photographer Elijah Muhammad and former entertainment publicist and best-selling author LaJoyce Brookshire have joined forces to release the book The Last Listening Party of The Notorious B.I.G.

In 1997, Elijah Muhammad was the official photographer for the listening party of Life After Death the new album release from The Notorious B.I.G. held at Arista Records in New York City hosted by his publicist LaJoyce Brookshire. No one would have thought that two weeks later Biggie would be dead.

LaJoyce Brookshire was Arista's Director of R&B Publicity and handled Biggie from the beginning of his career until his death who then became a Naturopathic Doctor and the best-selling author of Soul Food, Faith Under Fire, and Ask The Good Doctor. With her first-hand narrative she takes readers on a
never-before-told behind the scenes journey from her first encounter with Biggie to their last.

On the pages of this book Elijah's photography captures a rare side of Biggie with journalists in his element...music -- his music. Elijah has photographed such icons as Vanessa Williams, Queen Latifah, and Sean Diddy Combs to name a few and has held gallery showcases featuring his photography. Muhammad and Brookshire are touring sharing with audiences about their experiences with the larger than life icon and how collecting photography can be profitable. This pictorial is a collectors item with these never-before-released photographs bringing new meaning to the words of Life After Death.

The book can be purchased exclusively at http://www.blurb.com/

We are Family

We can't deny the fact our faces light up when we meet a fellow Peaks resident somewhere unexpected such as in a flea market or nail salon or children's sports and the like. We connect at once like we are family.

How would you feel if you run into fellow residents at some 30,000 ft in the clouds? Elated for sure right? That's exactly how we felt last summer. While traveling to India we met at least three other Peaks families in the flight and heard a fourth family was on the same flight too! One of us exclaimed that it seemed like we booked a flight just for Peaks! That's how happy we felt flying together.

Now the question is, do we share the same cheer once inside the community? Do we even know the names of our neighbors, their children? What is preventing us from connecting with one another? I am guilty myself of not making enough friends and not going the extra mile and not doing enough within the community. Once I started realizing what was lacking I couldn't help but start a campaign to bring us all closer, hence this attempt at the web site.

If only we can all come out of our shell and look around us and do the least we can, I believe Peaks will soon be a Big Happy Family! Care to share your ideas? Please use the comments section below.

Spring & Summer are beautiful time for bird watching. Here at the Peaks we are blessed with frequent visits from our feathered friends of different shape, color, size and model.

All it takes is a simple inexpensive bird feeder and of course some bird seeds. You will not be disappointed by the beautiful array of birds that will fly into your own backyard for an up close display.

Here's some pictures from last summer. If anyone has tips to share please feel free to add them in the comments section below...

Borrow an Egg

This is a true Peaks story: A while ago I listened to a radio program where someone recommended the best way to make friends is to borrow an egg. Funny as it may sound, when I look back that's exactly how our parents and grand parents and many generations before them made their friends - by borrowing an egg or a cup of sugar or flour or two onions or some curry leaves or some coins or a hairpin or a cooking pan or a ladder or a bicycle pump or you name it!

Only recently I could put this in to practice here in the United States of America. In a recent get together with friends, as the kids sat around the kitchen table for a cookie baking session, we suddenly realized we had run out of the all-purpose-flour, the main ingredient needed for the cookie dough. It was Christmas day and so all shops were closed. As I was contemplating how not to disappoint the kids, all of a sudden I remembered the radio advice to 'borrow-an-egg'.

Once I made up my mind to do just that, the next step was to identify whom to run to. There are few known families in our neighborhood one or two were off on vacation and others weren't all that close. However I decided to go knocking at a good neighbor's house few blocks away, borrowing some 'all-purpose-flour'. She was extremely delighted that I thought of her and came to her. As she measured and gave me a cup or two of the flour, the level of our friendship surely went up by a measure or two...

I had taken a little gift for her children as it was Christmas day - which was a special surprise for them. I got to know her husband had just had some surgery - so it cheered her up that someone showed up unexpectedly at the door - even if to borrow something ... I was glad too that I could bring in some unexpected holiday cheer to a dear family and that the little kids around my kitchen table could now proceed with their cookie baking session as planned.

The simple act of "borrowing" brought such widespread cheer in so many of us that night. It sure made our holiday very special.

When was the last time you borrowed something or made a new friend? If it has been a while or never, I encourage you to act on it. It doesn't come easily. It takes some courage and of course some humility. Try borrowing an egg or a cup of sugar or flour or some curry leaves or some coins or a hairpin or a cooking pan or a ladder or a bicycle pump or you name it!

You will be amazed at how many new gems you can collect for your very own crown of friends by doing this simple act. As you try, please feel free to add your experience to the comments section below, I would love to hear. Happy borrowing! And of course (it goes without saying), Happy lending too...!

Hello! Welcome to the Peaks at Jefferson. The Peaks at Jefferson is a beautiful mountaintop community adjacent to a beautiful lake - Lake Hopatcong.

Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in the state of New Jersey. The Lake itself offers year round activities for the local residents such as fly fishing, boating, ice fishing etc. You may want to check out the Wikipedia page to know more about Lake Hopatcong.

Jefferson Township which borders the lake is boasted as the Year Round Recreation Capitol of New Jersey and lives up to its name! It is a privilege to be blessed with so many volunteers come forward to engage children and adult in year round recreational activities.

Sunrise Communities the builders who designed and developed The Peaks share in their own words:
